Iceland’s only native breed is affectionately called “Icie” by its many fans. Icelandic Sheepdogs are still used there for herding, and to search for sheep lost in snowdrifts. In fact, during bad weather, the Icelandic Sheepdog’s sense of smell enables him to locate sheep when people can’t. Because the dog’s nose is also very useful in collecting eggs, Icies have been trained to locate the eggs of distinct species of birds.
