Even heavily coated breeds have expressions that can be read by their owners who know to look for subtle signs: movement of hair over the eyes, the tilt of a chin, or the angle of ears. Short coated breed owners, of course, get the “fully monty,” and in our view, one of the best in the business, so to speak, is the Chihuahua. Its breed standard recognizes this in the first sentence of the breed standard: General Appearance: A graceful, alert, swift-moving compact little dog with saucy expression, and with terrier-like qualities of temperament.
There is something, well, “saucy” about how a Chihuahua communicates, and French photographer living in NYC, Sophie Gammond, wisely recruited a Chi after noticing that dog fashion was taken pretty darn seriously by pet designers competing for oxygen. With the help of the pet courtier, Anthony Rubio, Gammond created a project she called Dog Vogue. We’ve shared one picture here, but to see the rest, go here. See if you don’t think there are subtle differences between the expressions this dog shares!
