She Had Something Less Common than a Coton de Tulear

What less common than a Coton de Tulear? A cloned Coton de Tulear.

What less common than a cloned Coton de Tulear? A pair of them owned by Barbra Streisand.

The singer/actress/director’s beloved Coton, “Sammie,” passed away last year at the age of 14. Before she died, cells were taken from her mouth and stomach, and from those cells came “Miss Violet” and “Miss Scarlett.” While awaiting the clones, she also adopted “Miss Fanny,” is a distant cousin of Sammie.

In an interview with Variety,  Streisand said, “They (Miss Violet and Miss Scarlett) have different personalities. I’m waiting for them to get older so I can see if they have her [Samantha’s] brown eyes and seriousness.” When they first arrived,  Streisand dressed the two clones in different colors to tell them apart, and this is how they got their names. Sadly, copyright restrictions keep us from sharing an image of Streisand with her dogs, but you can see them here.
