The Cardigan Welsh Corgi was once known as the “ci-llathed” or “yard-long” dog in the days before yards became meters in his native land, and old timers believed the breed was designed to measure 36 inches from nose-tip to tail-tip. As recently as the mid-sixteenth century, an old Welsh book referred to the “Korgi ne gostoc” — Welsh for “Corgi, or curre dog.” As an aside, another a sixteenth century manuscript made reference to the sharp bark of the Corgi: “Cyweirgyrn ynt y corgwn,” which translated meant, “These dogs are as tuning-keys for the harp.”
