We don’t know if Chinese sailors had a girl in every port, but history tells us that in the 14th century, Chinese seamen usually arrived in different cities with a Chinese Crested Hairless on board. The dogs were invaluable for catching rats on the ships at a time when the Black Death was very real, and rats spread the disease exponentially, in part, because of the fleas they carried. Since the dogs themselves didn’t have hair, they were unlikely to contribute to the spread of the disease since they were less likely to get fleas.
