The Poodle As Public Art December 20, 2017December 20, 2017 National Purebred Dog Day® Back in 2013, the installation of a new piece of public art in Vancouver (Canada) caused a stir. The sculpture – officially called “Untitled (Poodle),” was the creation of Montreal artist, Gisele Amantea, who was one of three artists chosen to participate in a public art project on Main Street called 88 Blocks – Art on Main. The Poodle piece that cost just south of $100,000, and inspired its own Twitter handle (@MainStPoodle) that invited all sorts of choice “tweets” about it. “Can’t decide on whether to look haughty or imperious today. Will just go with goofy (again),” one tweet read. The Poodle was inspired by a bus journey along Main Street taken by the artist in 2007, but it was just one of four pieces of art that was part of the Main Street art plan. There was also a giant hot-pink, knitted poodle cozy that wrapped one of the public buses in the busy transit corridor.
