Artist’s Thoughts:   Ever since watching the old TV series “Lassie,” I have always loved Collies. I grew up with a Collie/Shepherd mix who resembled the Collie side much more than the Shepherd. He was an EXTREMELY intelligent and talented animal, and I also believed that was due to the Collie in him. In addition to loving dogs, my late mother also had a love of butterflies. So as an homage to both Lassie and my mother, I included a butterfly in my rendition of the Collie. I feel the calm with which the dog is viewing the butterfly in the rendering reflects the gentle and inquisitive nature inherent in the Collie.
