First, enjoy the clip below from the fun movie, “Kate and Leopold:”
Isn’t it lovely to see an uncommon breed in a movie?
“Bart” is an Anatolian Shepherd, and in reality, he was played by two male Anatolian Shepherds, “Noah,” two and a half years old at the time, and five year old “Moses.” The two white Poodles in this clip, by the way, were played by “Charlie” and “Mario.”
Good training (and verbal cues off-camera) got Noah and Moses to bark, run, and sit quietly. The chase scene in the clip you just saw was carefully choreographed to get the timing of the stunt drivers in the street just right. Trainers called Noah from off-camera using a megaphone (and the promise of food!). It wasn’t actual food, however, that lead to Noah’s “Clean up!” moment. Noah had been trained to sit in a half-squat to simulate the action of “attending to nature’s call,” and simply trotted off to the trainer off-camera when called. Fake, non-toxic poop was hidden under him.
Anatolians also had roles in the films, Cats & Dogs and Friends With Benefits, the TV series Simon & Simon, and were featured in SportsNation.
