Sigmund Freud was a renowned dog lover, and while he’s most commonly associated with Chow Chows, the dog he bought for his daughter, Anna, was a German Shepherd Dog.
Anna was living at home at the time that “Wolf” was acquired to be her companion. As the story goes, one day, Anna and Wolf were on a walk when they came upon soldiers shooting blank rounds into the air. The noise startled Wolf who ran away and leapt into a taxi cab just as the door opened, probably to admit another passenger. According to the driver, Wolf kept lifting his head and learning towards the driver until the man realized that the dog’s address was written on his collar. Wolf got a taxi ride home, and the driver scored a large tip from Herr Freud. Anyone who’s known a German Shepherd Dog will find the story completely believable.
