Basenjis are described as being the “barkless dog,” but that doesn’t mean they’re silent. They howl, growl, whine, let loose an occasional bark-like sound, and as you’ll hear below – yodel. It’s said that the Basenji’s voice box is shaped differently than that of other breeds – narrower and more uniform in diameter, so Basenjis will make sound, but it isn’t forced it out all at once to sound like a bark as we think of it.
