In the United States, the Doberman Pinscher is listed as such with the parent club and with the AKC, but around the time the Doberman Club in the United Kingdom was founded (1948), the Germans dropped the word “pinscher” from the breed name because it referred to the German terrier type and wasn’t considered necessary anymore.
Consequently, the name of the breed (and club) in Great Britain is simply “the Doberman” (that’s the club logo at the right) which is also how the FCI refers to the breed. Both the Kennel Club and the FCI also spell the name with an extra “n” because that is how the creator of the breed, Karl Friedrich Louis Dobermann, spelled his name.
