Artist’s Thoughts: “Ever since I was born when my parents raised a show quality Airedale Terrier named Shana, I’ve lifelong dog lover. For my poster, I wanted to give reverence, esteem, and affection for as many breeds of individual dogs in all shapes and sizes in my representation of the individual uniqueness and special qualities (both physical characteristics and individual personalities) of each dog. As a student of Art History, I drew inspiration from the regal and hierarchal supremacy of fine art portraiture throughout western civilization particularly during the Renaissance and Baroque Royal portraits. Further, however, I also wanted to take a contemporary approach in form and composition that could be accessible and familiar to a wide range of viewers. The mantra namely, “Out of many dog breeds, one best friend to man.”
