People of a certain generation will remember bobble head dogs nodding their heads up and down in the back windows of cars. We thought it was hilarious. Such innocent times.
As proof that what’s old is new again, meet “Elroy,” the solar Corgi. Designer, Chris Collicot created “Elroy” in honor of the Queen of England’s Pembroke Welsh Corgis, which at the time of his design, included Emma, Linnet, Monty, Holly and Willow. It stands to reason (if you know about the Queen’s dogs) that Collicot would also make a solar Dachshund, “Boudewijn.” Both are powered by light, so neither require batteries, and they’re environmentally friendly. Put Elroy or Boudewijn in direct sunlight (or other bright lights) to watch them sway their heads back and forth. Like we said, a variation on an old idea.
We thought you might like to see this fluff piece about the royal Corgis, though we think it’s disingenuous to mention bites when at least one was incurred while the Queen was breaking up a dog fight. Just saying.
If you’d like to keep your solar Corgi and Dachshund company, you can also get a solar queen and a Solar Waving Royal Canadian Mounted Policeman. The fun never ends.
