Artist’s Thoughts: My goal was to create a work of art that represented one dog from each of the nine AKC groups, while honoring my creative style of artistic expression, and that would translate well into a printed format.

I gleefully accepted the challenge of including one dog from each of the nine AKC groups. As I researched each AKC group I selected a specific breed of dogs in that group that I felt would be easily recognized. After I identified several “candidate” dogs in each group I started to research the colors they came in. In my artwork I use vibrant colors, to continue that stylistic trend, I selected dogs that “technically-with artistic license” came in the colors you see them represented in. An apricot Poodle, a red Blood Hound, a blue and white Pembroke Welsh Corgi, and of course the Lilac Inca Orchid pictured wearing a sweater for warmth. Finally, I researched each breed’s average height (at the withers) and to the best of my ability, and without compromising the overall composition scaled them as accurately as I could.
