The Petit Basset Griffon Vendeen’s long, low, rectangular, and bulky look exemplifies “form following function” because to do their job, PBGVs have to plow through underbrush, rocks, thorns and brambles rather than over or around it. It’s said that one of the first breeders of the Petit Basset Griffon Vendeen was a 15th century French king’s clerk. In French, “clerk,” is “greffier,” and reference to the “greffier’s dogs” morphed into “griffon.”
