Fans of author, Nelson DeMille, are undoubtedly fans of his character, John Corey, as well. The quick-witted former homicide detective medically retired from the NYPD with three gunshot wounds is immensely popular for saying outlandish things that are “laugh-out-loud” funny before “LOL” became a thing.
Those familiar with Corey know that before his career segued into working in the anti-terrorist division of the FBI, he also instructed at John Jay College of Criminal Justice. Far from being a school that exists only in DeMille’s novels, John Jay is famous for having been founded as the only liberal arts college in the United States with a criminal justice and forensic focus. It makes perfect sense, then, that its mascot would be a Bloodhound because a trained Bloodhound is the first dog whose evidence is legally admissible in some US courts.
John Jay isn’t the only one to have a Bloodhound mascot: The US Army 615th Military Police Company’s mascot is a Bloodhound named for the company’s pet and mascot during Vietnam, “Andy.”
There’s one more: Auburndale High School is home of the Bloodhounds
