Artist’s Thoughts:I wanted to find an interesting way to incorporate a lot of different kinds of dogs into an eye-catching graphic design. I thought about having the dogs all piled into a dog bowl, like kibble. I thought about a dog food can. I kept coming back to the dog collar idea and especially one that was heart-shaped. I wanted all the dogs to intermingle, kind of like puzzle pieces. Because this was a big dog tag on a big dog collar, I thought it should hang around the neck of a big dog. And it should be standing in some grass and flowers, which added some color. I wanted the design to look like the finished poster, so I added the text. I think the dogs are playful, but also realistic enough. I painted on a primed board with acrylic paint.
