The Oldest Single Breed Specialty Club

The oldest single breed specialty club is England’s The Bulldog Club which was formed in 1878. Members met regularly at the Blue Post Pub on Oxford Street, London, and there, they wrote the first standard of perfection for the breed. We’re not sure if this next bit happened in the same place, but it sounds like something dreamed up in a pub. In 1891, the two top Bulldogs, “Orry” and “Dockleaf,” competed in a contest to see which dog could walk the farthest. “Orry” was reminiscent of original bulldogs, lighter boned and very athletic, “Dockleaf” was smaller and heavier set. Dockleaf was declared the winner. No word on the distance traveled.

This gives us a good excuse to share the followig commercial because who doesn’t love to see a Bulldog and Bulldog puppy?
