Don’t anyone ask, “What’s an album?” Back in the day, vinyl was the only way to listen to music, and a lot of people still think it is, including Michael Fremer, an audiophile of the highest calibre. We’re tickled to be able to tell you that Michael Fremer is a Corgi man, and if you, too, are a vinyl affectionado, you’ll want to follow his blog here.
That said, we’ve wildly digressed from the subject at hand, and that is Hawk Nelson, a Canadian Christian rock and pop punk band from Ontario. Formed in 2000, the four-piece group won five consecutive GMA Canada Covenant Awards, seven GMA Dove Awards, two Juno awards, a Golden Ear Music Award, and a Grammy. On their fourth album, Live Life Loud, they featured a Pug wearing 3-D glasses as the cover art, and for anyone who was wondering, the Pug is a member of the band. Sort of.
“Murphy,” belongs to lead vocalist, Jason Dunn who shared this anecdote about the album cover. “That Pug is actually my dog, Murphy. It wasn’t even my idea. I was in home in Canada when one of the guys called me. They were like ‘Hey where’s Murphy?’ I’m like, ‘He’s at such and such place in Nashville.’ They were like, ‘Well can we get him ‘cause we want to put him on the record cover.’ I was like, ‘What?’ So we did that and the inside of the record is all 3-D. So that and the glasses kind of go hand in hand. And when you see a cute little dog on the front of the record you go “Awww,” and you’re kind of drawn into it, right?’
Right!
