We don’t know why the cocktail (recipe below) is named a “Great Dane,” other than perhaps too many makes you feel like a big dog? That said, here’s how you make it:
- 1 oz. Aquavit (a Norwegian liquor made from potatoes, flavored with caraway, and pronounced “AH-keh-veet”);
- 1/2 oz. Brandy, cherry
- 1 dash Bitters, orange
- 1/2 oz. Cranberry Juice
Shake ingredients in a cocktail shaker with ice. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass.
If you don’t feel up to mixing your own drink, you could always visit the Great Dane Pub & Brewing Company in the Madison, Wisconsin area. We don’t know why it’s named for a great breed, but Great Dane owners might get a kick out of their shop which features a few goodies with “Great Dane” prominent on them.
