Sort of Like Parts of a Specialty, but for Police Dogs

Tomorrow and until October 20, 2-17, The United States Police Canine Association (USPCAa) will be holding a national training seminar in Rochester, Minnesota in which attendees will attend seminars covering topics like:

  • The development of a young police dog;
  • Tracking;
  • Environmental apprehension scenarios;
  • K-9 tactical movements with a cover officer;
  • Narcotic / Explosive detection and problem solving, and
  • K-9 unit supervision

Why should you care? Well, aside from being really interesting, the police dogs you see in airports, train stations, and inside a police car, are probably dogs that were trained and certified by the USPCA. It’s the country’s oldest and largest Police K-9 Organization that’s been training and certifying police dogs in general use since 1971. The organization works with a wide variety of breeds that include the German Shepherd Dog, Belgian Malinois, Retrievers, Labradors, Border Collies, and Bloodhounds, and if anyone knows the value of purpose bred dogs offering predictability, it’s these guys.

If you, or someone  you know, was helped by a police dog, or you just believe in the difference they make, you can contribute to the association here.  Tell them NPDD sent you!
