Occasionally, we draw upon the rich pool of knowledge that NPDD readers have, and in that light, we ask our Chihuahua friends to enlighten us about their breed’s head.
It’s said that relative to their bodies, Chihuahuas have the biggest brain in the canine world (which would explain why they’re so quick-witted). That said, Chihuahuas can have either an “apple head” or a “deer shaped head,” the difference being that deer-headed dogs have a narrower head and longer muzzle, while apple-headed Chis have a more bulbous skull. The AKC breed standard calls for, “A well rounded “apple dome” skull, with or without molera,” with no mention of a “deer head” at all. We’re asking our Chihuahua friends: What’s up with the “deer head?”
