While Clumber Spaniels can be laid-back and easy-going, contrary to popular belief, they are not lazy, and the descriptive, “The Old Man’s Hunting Dog” didn’t come about because they were slow, but because they worked carefully and methodically closer to the hunter.
It was this extreme focus, resolve and determination to stay on task that helped “Josey” become the first certified Urban and Wilderness Search and Rescue Clumber Spaniel in 2015. Deployed with the Los Angeles Police Department, Josey wasn’t just the first Clumber Spaniel to be certified with CARDA (the oldest and largest all-volunteer search dog organization in the US), but also the first Clumber to earn the AKC SAR-W (Search and Rescue-Wilderness) title. And oh, by the way, Josey is also a show dog, and her formal name is: GCh. Bluemoonrysn Outlaw Josey Wales BN, RN, THDN, TD, CGC!
You can read more about Josey and her owner/handler, Jody Davidson, in a wonderful article that appeared on Petcha.com. We were fortunate enough to have Jody share this photograph of herself with Josey back in 2016.
