The Golden Retriever’s name had twists and turns early in its existence. At first, the retrievers were listed as “Golden Flat Coats,” or sometimes “Retriever- Wavy” and were regarded as a color variation of the Flat-Coated Retriever, not a breed in its own right. England’s Kennel Club officially recognized the breed om 1911 as, “Retriever- Yellow or Golden” and finally in 1920, the breed name was officially changed to Golden Retriever.
