The English translation of his name is, “Snowy,” but the little white Fox Terrier’s original name was “Milou,” so named after the creator’s girlfriend, Marie-Louise. Some of you, however, may be more familiar him as the canine partner of the boy detective, “Tintin.”
Created back in 1929 by Belgian cartoonist, Hergé, the Tintin and Milou series was one of the most popular European comics of the 20th century. In 2006, the Dalai Lama, along with South African Archbishop Desmond Tutu, even bestowed the International Campaign for Tibet’s Light of Truth Award upon the character of Tintin in recognition of the book, “Tintin in Tibet,” Hergé’s most personal adventure.
By the time of the 100th anniversary of Hergé’s birth in 2007, Tintin had been published in more than 70 languages with sales of over 200 million copies.
