What we find interesting about Pijuan Design Workshop’s trio of modern dog houses isn’t that they were inspired by mid-century modern architectural designs of Richard Neutra, Joseph Eichler, and William Krisel, or that “Dog Tower 9” is an “interior” dog house that looks more like a piece of fine furniture. It’s that the Southern Californian designers, husband and wife team Alejandro and Sara Pijuan, chose purebred dogs to help “model” their houses, and again as part of their website design on the “spoil your pup” page.
Though some might be surprised by their decision at a time when purebred dogs are erroneously perceived by some as elitist, it doesn’t surprise us in the least. Companies wanting to impart certain messages when advertising their product invariably choose purebred dogs to suggest quality and reliability.
