The snood endured into the modern era when most were made of rayon or crocheted cotton. They were a popular hair accessory in the 1940s, and especially for women working in factories during WWII:
Today, it’s all but impossible to find a snood in a department store, but there is one segment of the population that still wears snoods routinely – and the Afghan Hound in the thumbnail photo shows exactly who is still wearing snoods.
Owners of long eared breeds have long known the value of snoods in keeping their dogs’ ears out of water, dog food, and from being chewed on by other dogs just because they can. Snoods, however, aren’t just for drop eared dogs. Some dogs get cold, or have ears prone to frostbite. In our opinion, there are a lot of dogs who can really rock the look of a snood.  Just saying.
