Some European countries and Britain knew the Great Pyrenees as the Pyrenean Mountain Dog, and in France, it was called the Le Chien de Montagne des Pyrenees, or Le Chien des Pyrenees. Two hundred years ago, however, this wonderful breed was known as the King of the Sheepdogs, and also the “White Furred Lord.”
Did you know that Barry Gibb of the Bee Gees owned a Great Pyrenees named “Barnaby?” The dog appeared in the video for the song, “Lonely Days,” which is a terrific song. The video from 1970 when music videos were in their infancy? Not so much. Still, watch the video and see the dog appear at the 1:30 mark.
