Artist’s Thoughts: I like to paint dog portraits and Winston was a character from puppy stage throughout his life. I just had to paint him realistically and as a life size image. I wanted to capture his inquisitive facial expression with a look you in the eye composition. My reference photo was Winston actually skateboarding on the deck but I didn’t want the deck or skateboard to be too prominent and overpower the star. When looking at the painting the skateboard is a discovery – the supporting cast. He is painted with a smooth coat but has some texture around the neck area due to folds in his skin.
