An Oxymoron: Supporting Animal welfare AND a “No Dogs Allowed” Policy

Within reason and common sense, we not sure you can support animal welfare and have a “no dogs allowed” rental policy. Research indicates that one common reason for pet to be relinquished to shelters is housing issues. According to San Francisco’s nonprofit SPCA, there’s been a huge surge in owners (some estimates are from 29% to 33%) abandoning their pets because they can’t find pet-friendly housing – so tell us again how alleged “overpopulation” in shelters is the fault of ethical breeders?

As Rebecca J. Huss concluded in her paper, “No Pets Allowed: Housing Issues and Companion Animals,” “pet owners should exercise their right to vote for public officials that consider issues relating to companion animals as an important priority of their jobs.”
