The Chinese Crested Hairless and Puff, as seen here, are sometimes referred to as the “My Little Ponies” of the canine world.
We’re about to talk genetics, and page veterans know how squeamish we are about this topic, but we rely on genetic junkies to keep us on the right path. Our reading tells us that the Powderpuff trait cannot be bred out because the gene is carried by all Chinese Cresteds (even the hairless ones). All Hairless Chinese Crested have the ability to produce Powderpuff puppies, even when they’re bred to another Hairless. Conversely, Powderpuffs bred to another Powderpuff will never produce hairless puppies because they don’t carry the Hairless gene.
