The Komondor has been a working dog in Hungary for at least ten centuries, its ancestors brought to the Carpathian Basin by nomadic Magyars (and please! Magyar is not pronounced “mag-yar,” but mah-dyar, emphasis on the first syllable). The breed is thought by some to be a close descendent of the Aftscharka found on the southern steppes by the Huns on their way through Russia.
