Smokey. The life of a Bluetick Coonhound Mascot.
We shouldn’t have to do this, but out of concern that the picture at the left will deflect attention from the real topic – the Coonhound – we write a preemptive strike. Before you opine that because a prong/pinch collar looks like a barbaric device, it is one, know that a prong collar can be pulled only so tight, unlike a choke chain or slip collar which has unlimited closing capacity and truly can cut off air. Some dogs should not wear a prong collar, and some people should never own one. “Smokey,” however, is a “known runner,” and the collar is for his own safety. For more on prong collars, read this.

Oh yes coonhounds are runners. My Treeing walker runs ultra marathons with my husband (a veterinarian). We put her in two collars and a harness. One of the collars is a prong. All my dogs get excited when the see us get out the prong collars.
