Superbowl 50 was memorable for several reasons, not the least of which was the Denver Bronco’s win over the Carolina Panthers (24 to 10, thanks for asking!), the final appearance of Peyton Manning in an NFL game, and a commercial featuring a stampede of Dachshunds in hot dog costumes charging towards human condiments to the Harry Neilson tune, “Without You.” You can’t make this stuff up.
The ad dubbed, “Wiener Stampede,” was created by the DAVID Miami Agency. “There comes a time in every wiener dog’s life when you look in the full length doggy mirror and ask yourself, am I going to be a plain old boring hot dog forever?” Heinz wrote in the vid’s description. The full one-minute commercial was posted on YouTube, with the shortened 30-second clip airing during the Super Bowl. “It was certainly something that required quite a bit of orchestration in terms of having dozens of wiener dogs,” Heinz marketing vice president Michelle St. Jacques. “We had to make sure we got them all running in the right direction.”
As cute as the commercial was, our hearts were won by one little Dachshund who looked up curiously at the camera following him at the :46 second mark. But really, we could eat them all up. Bad pun intended.
