Herend Porcelain

Founded in 1826 by Vince Stingl, Herendi Porcelánmanufaktúra Zrt, or Herend Porcelain located in Herend near near Lake Balaton originally produced pottery, but in 1839, it began to produce supremely fine porcelains known as “white gold,” and the company saw fit to include a Kuvasz. Clients included European aristocrats and royals in the Hapsburg Dynasty who, wanting only the best, found it in Herend’s hand painted and gilded porcelains. Queen Victoria ordered a set decorated with colorful butterflies and peonies, a pattern later named Queen Victoria Décor in honor of the Queen. Many of its classic patterns are still in production, though it’s unlikely that the Kuvasz seen here is still made.

These days, the porcelains are more instantly recognized by the unique fishnet pattern, and they are still making dog figurines like the Labrador Retriever below:

You can expect to pay anywhere from $295.00 on up, and with more than 16,000 Herend porcelains in different sizes and forms, it’s wise to make sure that at the bottom of any Herend porcelain product you are considering purchasing is the Herend trademark.
