This was US Patent US4233942, the “Dog Ear Protector” described as providing protection for long eared dogs from becoming soiled during meal time. The device “provided a generally tubular shaped member for containing and protecting each each of the animal, and a member to position the tubular member and animal ears away from the mouth and food of the animal while it is eating.” Never mind the dog trying to get through a dog door while wearing US Patent US4233942.
