The Youngest Trick Dog & Guinness Record Holder

After watching the video below, you’ll understand why a Border Collie named “Hero”  became the world’s youngest champion trick dog with over 60 tricks at the age of 20 weeks.

In 2018, Hero also broke the Guinness World Record for most dog tricks performed in one minute by completing 49 tricks in 60 seconds, nearly twice as many as the previous record.

Owned and trained by Sara Carson, the team is originally from Ontario, Canada where Sara ran a successful dog training facility. Her dogs have received a multitude of awards in dock diving, agility, frisbee, and canine freestyle, but most people know Sara and her dogs through her TV appearances on the 12th season of America’s Got Talent (they made it to the finals), The Ellen Show, Petco Commercials, The Late Show with David Letterman, and of course, the Guinness World Record.

In an interview back in 2015, Sara shared some training tips:

Sara has said that she adopted Hero at a time when she needed hope and someone to save her, and that’s how Hero got his name. In turn, Sara has become hero to other dogs: She adopts dogs from owners who can’t control them, dogs who are too hyperactive (read: super intelligent and easily bored) to be living in a family home. Namely, Border Collies owned by people who were a poor fit for them. Sara understands all too well. In the Judge Cuts round of AGT, she shared that some her own family didn’t understand her, nor did they support her dream of being a dog trainer.

She hadn’t spoken to them in years when she got Hero. Sara and Hero lived out of her car as they began to tour North America, performing and training other dogs.  It was a personal story that made everyone root for them.

Hero is ten years old now (2021), and his net worth is somewhere between $100,000 and $1 million.  Take that, Carson family.

As an aside, the most tricks performed by two dogs in one minute is a record also held by Border Collies, Halo, Wish, and their  owner/trainer, Emily Larlham. Wish also broke the record for the fastest 5-meter crawl by a dog, achieving the feat in 2.175 seconds.
