Back in 2019, the National Bank of Hungary and the Hungarian Mint issued a new series of coins featuring Hungarian breeds. The first breed highlighted was the Vizsla, the second was the Komondor (which we covered in 2020, see below), and the third, the Agar, will be featured here soon:
The most recent addition came in 2022 with the Hungarian Mudi. The coin 2,000-forint coin has a diameter of 34 mm and was struck in a gold-looking alloy of 75% copper, 4% nickel, and 21% zinc; it weighs 16 grams. Mintage was limited to 20,000 pieces in prooflike quality and was available from the U.S.-based distributor Coin & Currency Institute for (at the time) $19.95. The first three coins celebrating the Vizsla, Komondor, and Magyar Agar have been among the mint’s most popular issues.
