A Catahoula By Any Other Name

The word Catahoula is of Choctaw Indian origin and is translated into English as “sacred lake.” Just as the Choctaw word Chockahoula means “sacred home.” It was alway’s part of the breed’s name, even when it was originally called the Catahoula Cur, Catahoula Hound,Catahoula Hog Dog, and Catahoula Hound Dog, its name changing to Catahoula Leopard Dog after it was named the official state dog of Louisiana in 1979.
