It’s been a good year for a coat variety of the breed that should never be overlooked: the Longhaired Dachshund. “Burns,” the Longhaired Dachshund who won the Hound group at the 2019 Westminster Kennel Dog Show was a crowd favorite during Best in Show and made a lot of people take notice of this variety:

Now comes news that “Cooper,” the Longhaired Dachshund belonging to Irish Fashion, Travel & Lifestyle blogger, Lousie Cooney, is one of Instagram’s “Top 10 Influencer Dogs To Follow.” Don’t be too quick to dismiss this attention. Businesses look for what’s popular on Instagram, and they tailor their marketing to follow the trend. It’s why we’re always urging friends of National Purebred Dog Day to create Instagram pages for their purebred dog.
In 2015, Gerry McFaul received an invitation to judge the long-haired Dachshund category at Crufts, 2019. The forty year veteran breeder and exhibitor of the breed had himself won three previous Best of Breed awards in the Longhaired Dachshund category at Crufts, and while it was a long time coming in the minds of many, McFaul, himself, was thrilled. In reading his biography, we were tickled to read that McFaul doesn’t rehome his dogs when they’re too old to compete. The oldest dog in his kennels is “Dare,” a former champion, and fourteen years old.
