A Picture is Worth a Thousand Words. More, and You’ve Struck Gold

As they say, a picture is worth a thousand words. How about a series of pictures to underscore that our breeds today do have the instinct to do the job for which their breed was developed or nurtured?

If you’re soft hearted, as we are, know that the “kill” is an artificial lure. The photos are over four years old, and we would dearly love to credit the owners/photographer of the pictures of this fabulous Pharaoh Hound.  That said, the pictures show why the breed was known as the “Dog of Kings” that hunted gazelles with Pharaohs. If you are a lucky owner of this breed, we salute you for having as a canine companion a dog that gives you six degrees of separation (give or take a few thousand year) with pharaohs. Way cool.

  1. We have two of these amazing creatures out of our current four dogs ( the other two are Weimaraners from the same litter ). Not disrespecting any of the dogs we’ve had over the years – all of whom were adored – and which has included another Weimaraner, a Great Dane and Black Labs, but this breed is remarkable. They’re almost human.

    • Jerry, we’ve also heard the breed was a wonderful sense of humor, true?

      • they are true clowns. not a single day i dont have a good laugh about our pharaoh.

      • Funny doesn’t begin to describe them and many owners actually claim to be owned by them instead. They simply don’t understand that they are dogs and place themselves squarely into your life as an equal. What’s great about this breed are the breeders themselves. They have protected the lineage and it is a very small community. Widely known as one of the oldest breeds on the planet, it is protected almost ferociously at times to maintain how pure the line is.

    • Christie, he’s lovely! What is the breed like to live with?

    • Many thanks for a link to seeing more wonderful pictures, thank you, Carmen!

  2. The Pharaoh Hound ability to blush always steals my heart 🙂 My lovely PH know how to make my heart soft 🙂 🙂 🙂

    • It’s a goal of ours to see a Pharaoh blush in person!
