Though the Xoloitzcuintli is in the AKC’s Non-Sporting group, in 1974, the Asociacion Canofila Mexicana (ACM – the Mexican Kennel Club), listed it as a working breed because of its protective qualities. Mexicans believed that as a representative of the god, Xolotl, Xolos guided and protected the souls of the dead on their journey to the life hereafter – hard work, indeed. So, Xolo friends, do you think your breed is in the right group?
