Artist’s Thoughts: I compete and train my two dogs in agility. It’s always fun to watch the fast border collies but I also love to watch all the different breeds at competitions: the different jumping styles and characters of the dogs. It was difficult to decide how to portray this so I chose two breeds from each of the eight AKC groups including the Miscellaneous group. These are the main figures, although not entirely to scale I have tried to keep the sizes very roughly relative to each other. So things wouldn’t be too cluttered, I painted most of the agility equipment as small background thumbnails some with mini dog figures where appropriate for scale.The breeds I show are: Herding group: Border Collie, Australian Cattle dog and an Australian Shepherd over jump, Working group: Siberian Husky and Rottweiler, Miniature group: Mini Poodle, Papillon and smooth Chihuahua with tunnel, Sporting Group: Golden Retriever and German Shorthaired Pointer, Terrier group: Parson Russell Terrier, Cairn Terrier, and Border Terrier on seesaw, Non-Sporting Group: Schipperke and Boston Terrier, Hound Group: Greyhound, Dachshund and Beagle on dog-walk, Miscellaneous Group: Dutch Shepherd and Mudi. I wanted to create a colorful painting depicting the joy and fun that dogs have when competing or practicing agility.
