Dog people.
It amuses most of us to have wallpaper featuring our breed, collect accessories associated with our breed, be able to serve a cocktail named after our breed – even use walking sticks that have the head of our breed at the top.
Chihuahua owners, let us landscape your yard with – wait for it – Leucophyllum laevigatum, also known as the Chihuahua Sage. This low-maintenance evergreen shrub has periodic masses of lavender flowers are not only fragrant but will attract hummingbirds, too. It’s a quite pretty plant named after the Chihuahua region in Mexico, but it thrives in areas like Arizona, New Mexico, western Texas, and southern California where conditions are hot, dry, and sunny (think USDA Zones 7–10).
There is no evidence that Chihuahuas are particularly attracted to, or have a special liking for, Chihuahuan sage, but note to owners, it is considered non-toxic to dogs.
