Back in 2017, Volkswagen unveiled its Tiguan “Nuts” Commercial. They could have used a bazillion different dogs for this ad, but they chose a Berner for the spot called, “The New King of the Concrete Jungle:”
The ad spot reads, “A clumsy squirrel unintentionally sets off a chain reaction when it drops a single acorn in the road. As it chases after the misplaced morsel, a cat joins the pursuit, followed closely by a dog, a police horse and its officer, who runs right into the path of an oncoming Volkswagen Tiguan. The vehicle stops dead in its tracks. With animal instincts and people-detecting technology, the Volkswagen Tiguan is described as the new king of the concrete jungle.”
The breed would find itself in another popular ad two years later, this one for Amazon:
Proving that you can never have too many commercials with a Bernese Mountain Dog in it, HealthPartners collaborated with director Mike Neleson and Drive Thru to include “Walter,” the Berner working with Animal Talent Pool, a fact we learned from Kathleen Riley’s blog.
Not every video with a Berner in it was to advertise a product or service. The Instagram page of @bernese_summer shared an astounding video that should have been a commercial for Volvo. Watch and see why!
The breed is beautiful and larger than life. The only surprise is why it’s not used more often in ads!
