Artist’s Thoughts:  I am a lifelong artist and animal lover and have been creating lasting memories of other peoples animals (mostly dogs) for decades. There is just something that draws me into their eyes that I cannot resist. When I snapped the photo of Bonnie resting on her favorite chair (probably waiting for someone to provide a treat – at the appointed time), my heart just melted and I had to paint her! I hope you enjoy your dog as much as I do mine. I love using both watercolors and colored pencils the most, so decided to combine them in this piece. Bonnie came from a dedicated breeder of champion Mini Aussies  [Ed note: Miniature American Shepherd] who pours her heart & soul into each litter. I feel blessed to have one of my own.

I used a base layer of watercolor on Arches cold press w/c paper to establish my composition, major values and hues. After which I layered colored pencils to develop the depth of color and emotion I was looking for.
