Painting Details: What went through my mind as I created this image for this competition was how dogs have a sense of humor.
Artist’s thoughts: I have loved dogs all my life. Our first dog was an English Springer Spaniel, Molly. We acquired her because my uncle was moving to Scotland with the Navy. Throughout my life I’ve had a Beagle, Lubertha, she was named after a woman on a Jerry Springer episode. Our last purebred was a Boxer, named Rocky. She was perhaps the most special. She and I had a connection like I’ve never had before. Unfortunately she died of cancer a year and a half ago. I recently began painting bags, all kinds, with pet portraits. Many of the events I’ve attended have been AKC dog shows. What a treat those are. To see all the breeds I’ve only seen in books is so great. My focus is the eyes. An animals eyes have the power to speak a great language.
