By Any Name, They’re Tibetan Terriers

In their native Tibet (and that’s Tibet, not China), Tibetan Terriers were called “the little people,” though the Tibetan name for the breed, Tsang Apso, translates roughly into “shaggy or bearded dog from the province of Tsang.” Sometimes when a visitor or dignitary was traveling through Tibet, a Tibetan Terrier would be given to them to keep them safe during what could be a hazardous journey out of Tibet, and for that reason, the dogs were also nicknamed, “The Good Luck Dog,” or “Dog of Prosperity.”
