Poor Carmichael is possessed by demons. Everyone has one or two, but Carmichael has all of them: The demons of lust, envy, sloth, avarice, wrath – you name it. The good news is that they’ve tormented Carmichael to creative heights as a world-famous author. The bad news is that Carmichael is a bottomless pit of negative emotion, and the only antidote is love. Carmichael’s ability to love is reawakened by, of all things, a Pomeranian who engages in a battle royale with the demons.
By now, you’ve likely determined that we’re writing about a piece of fiction (wait – we all have demons, we all love dogs, and dogs defend us, so maybe not?) but in this case, it’s the plot for “Carmichael’s Dog” by R. M. Koster. It comes recommended by a fellow NPDD reader who describes it as funny, if not unusual. One reviewer wrote, “The ensuing struggle for Carmichael’s soul is a hilarious send-up of the ancient combat of good versus evil and a fascinating window into the mysteries of artistic creation.” Leave a review below if you’ve also read the book.
I read it and enjoyed it a lot. Very funny and the Pom is a great character.
