Try not to judge a post by the “cover” photo at the left. What looks like something medieval, if not cruel, is actually an “awwww” moment in the video that follows. It vividly illustrates the difference an LGD, or Livestock Guardian Dog, can make to people who grow food and fiber in the words of those people, themselves.
Every farm or ranch has unique livestock protection needs, and there are breeds that each have a different “skill set.” Using the right breeds for a particular situation reduces predation by dogs who “employ” territorial exclusion (marking the boundaries of their territory), disruption (barking and posturing), and/or confrontation. The use of LGDs by ranchers and farmers is an exceptionally “green” solution to a serious problem, but don’t take our word for it. Watch the video:
Great video, very informative.
Not a video I’d ever recommend. Especially for a group promoting purebred dogs. ☹️
Why’s that, Jdengler?
Very good video, LGDs Make A Diffetence
Agreed, Sara. We think the video does a fine job of pointing out the strengths of different LGD breeds to do particular type work. Thanks for writing!
